We will hold a Super 8 screening on 8 May 2005. We have found a suitable venue (in Kladno, not far from Prague).
We have Super 8 projectors. We have Super 8 films (old and new).

Ich bin natürlich im Mai dabei und habe folgende Ideen: am 7.5. würde ich gerne eine Schmalfilmagala machen, wie groß die sein wird weiß ich noch nicht.
Und am 8.5. werde ich voraussichtlich eine Schmalfilmamatinee veranstalten. Das sind die groben Ideen. Gestern hatte ich meinen 37. Schmalfilmabend in Hannover mit 67 Zuschauern, es ist eine echte Kultshow geworden. Wenn ich einen Extra Schmalfilmabend (Thema Fußball) nicht mitrechne, dann feiere ich am 8.5. meinen 40. Schmalfilmabend in Hannover, na wenn das nicht passt.

Bin Mitbetreiber des Programmkino Mal Seh´n in Frankfurt/M. und organisiere dort immer wieder Kurzfilmprogramme mit experimenteller Ausrichtung, in denen u.a. auch Super-8 Filme ihren Platz finden. Bin selbst Filmemacher, habe viel auf S-8 gedreht, benutze aber momentan S-8 mehr als Ausgangsmaterial für weitere Bearbeitungen auf 16mm/35mm. Bei einem Global Super-8 Day würde ich mich mit dem Kino gern beteiligen, weiß nur noch nicht in welcher Form. Jedenfalls: Super Idee!

My name is Aaron Munson and I am from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am an independent filmmaker and have worked primarily with Super 8 thus far. I love the look of the format and the versatility of it, due to it's size and packaging. Earlier this year I established the "Edmonton Super 8 Filmmakers Society", a society dedicated to the appreciation, exhibition and use of Super 8. I would like to hold a screening here in Edmonton for Global Super 8 day and would be able to do so within the guidelines that you have established.

i learned about the gs8d via mail by friends and i am interested in taking part an background information. so i got two main questions: what kind of action is worthy enough to be a part of gs8d? and, because neitherthe internet nor the given path to gs8d 2000 is not very informative, i would like to know more about the background of the idea. who, when, why, what was/is the result after 4 years ?
(btw: i am from tokyo, at the moment based in berlin and i write on reg. basis for a japanese netpaper and an australian culture mag and i feel able to get whatever things in motion when iam back home next year)

Hallo,
ich bin Milena Gierke und habe über Deborah Philipps von eurem Vorhaben gehört. Ich habe experimentellen Film bei Peter Kubelka in Frankfurt am Main an der Kunsthochschule - Städel- studiert. Seit 1990 filme ich ausschließlich mit Super 8 und habe schon an vielen Einzel und Gruppenvorführungen International teilgenommen.
Seit 2000 bin ich Teil einer Gruppe «Filmsamstag» die in Berlin im Filmkunsthaus Babylon/Mitte einmal im Monat Kunstfilme zeigt. Dabei bin ich unter anderem für Super 8 Filme zuständig. Leider fällt der 8. 5.04 auf einen Sonntag. Aber irgendwie, irgendwo ließe sich da bestimmt was machen.
Ich kenne einige Super-8 Filmer aus verschiedenen «Kategorien» und Ländern. Habt ihr auch einen englischen Text den ich weiterleiten könnte? Was interessiert euch vor allem, wie stellt ihr euch das vor?

Here are my answers to your questions:

Yes, I organized Global Super 8 Day 2000 in Buffalo, NY. It was a huge success and we have had 4 Global Super 8 Days since them. We have guest filmmakers come present their super 8 films and do a call for work. Every year people walk out of there totally inspired by the work. (David has submitted work for every GS8D in Buffalo!!)
We invited Kodak one year, and now Squeaky Wheel (the organization that sponsors the event) is sponsoring Against the Grain: A Super 8 Invitational, with Kodak. We invited 10 filmmakers to shoot different rolls of super 8 film so that Kodak can make a demo reel. They want to market super 8 better to ensure it continues to have a market (and continues to get made). Global Super 8 Day totally inspired this connection and, in talking with the Kodak representatives, I see that they have made a commitment to super 8 film!!
People look forward to it every year. It has also inspired a weeklong children's super 8 filmmaking workshop in the summer, super 8 shooting, handprocessing, and screening weekends, and several super 8 workshops at Squeaky Wheel.

I am writing on behalf of Home Movie Day, an international screening of home movies along the lines of Global Super 8 Day. We just finished our second annual event (which is held on the second Saturday in August), at forty cities in the United States, Great Britain, Canada and Japan. Although we have screenings in 8mm, 16mm and 9.5mm as well as Super 8, obviously there is a lot of super 8 shown at our screenings and some room for interesting coordination between our organizations. Our screenings all incorporate presentations and information about film preservation and tend to include more historical films, although there have been recent films shown and we do strongly encourage continuing to shoot on Super 8.
We would like to keep in contact with your organization so that we can possibly arrange some sort of collaboration next year.

It's not such a big city. And super 8 screenings are not that popular. I know a lot of people that use super 8 film as their media but they usually don't screen it more than at home.
